ModSpace Continues Commitment to Disaster Relief as Title Sponsor of American Red Cross Tour du Rouge Event in Gulf RegionEvent latest in series of efforts sponsored by ModSpace to help the Red Cross and local communities respond effectively to disasters BERWYN, PA.September 16, 2008In the wake of Tropical Storm Hannah and Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, one company has made a commitment to the American Red Cross and the Gulf region's ongoing efforts in disaster relief. ModSpace, the nation's leading provider of modular building, storage, and services for temporary or permanent space needs, has established a disaster response program to help communities get back on their feet by rapidly providing fully-functioning emergency modular space. ModSpace's commitment to the Gulf Coast is longstanding. The company has directly assisted communities and businesses in the aftermath of numerous disasters. ModSpace recently developed a hurricane leasing program for businesses who anticipated a long recovery from Hurricane Gustav. As Gustav spurred the largest hurricane evacuation in U.S. history, ModSpace made it possible to reserve modular buildings in advance, and offered priority emergency delivery following the storm. Their hurricane leasing program is only the latest in ModSpace's efforts and commitment to helping the Gulf Coast. As the Red Cross deals with a National Disaster Fund in need of replenishment, ModSpace has signed on to be the title sponsor in their upcoming cycling event that will bring cyclists from across North America to the Gulf Coast for the inaugural Tour du Rouge, a six-day cycling marathon that hopes to raise $1 million to support the American Red Cross. The Tour du Rouge runs Oct. 18th through the 23rd, and will involve cyclists banding together to ride 515 miles along the disaster-prone Gulf Coast, from Houston to New Orleans. Eight ModSpace company employees will be riding in the tour to help raise funds. It's the latest in a series of extraordinary disaster relief efforts the company has undertaken since 2005. For example, ModSpace volunteers worked around the clock-many up to 20 hours a day, seven days a week-in the months directly following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The company provided approximately 1,000 modular units to assist Katrina relief efforts. When Katrina hit, ModSpace personnel set up a command center in Houston to service the impacted area and provided numerous modular buildings for medical, military, and electrical power station use. "Immediately after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, ModSpace divisions from around the country pitched in to help," says Brian Melancon, Director of ModSpace's South Central Division. "Many of our colleagues in our New Orleans branch lost everything in the flooding. It was one of the most challenging recovery efforts we have ever been involved in, but we pulled it off." Today the company continues to support the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans as a provider of mobile job site offices and through custom modular building projects such as the VA St. John Outpatient clinic - a 9,000 square foot permanent modular building recently completed to serve Louisiana veterans. ModSpace's experience with disaster relief extends well beyond Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The company has a long history of stepping up to provide emergency living, working, and medical quarters to communities affected by disaster; from the flooding in the Midwest to the fires along the Gulf Coast. Today they continue those efforts, and stand committed to helping the Gulf Coast. "When the tornado hit Jackson, Tenn., in February 2008, we immediately sent a ModSpace team to assist in any way we could," says Karen Jones, ModSpace Custom Territory Manager for Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. "We've helped countless communities get back on their feet with temporary stations for housing, medical assistance, and emergency assistance supplies. And we've kept businesses running from our modular buildings while their usual locations are recovered from storm or fire damage." To help with much needed Red Cross funding in the Gulf Region, ModSpace encourages companies and individuals to make donations at www.tourdurouge.org or support a ModSpace team rider at www.active.com/donate/tourdurouge/ModSpace.
