Strict
architectural guidelines of the upscale Bellevue,
WA community required that this 5,544 sq. ft. modular
chapel be designed to blend into the surrounding residential
and commercial corridor.
To meet the
city's requirements, ModSpace concealed the wall-mounted HVAC
units with screens and incorporated a pitched roof and front porch
into the Salvation Army's Chapel and Community Center design.
The
roof structure had to be part of the building to facilitate the
relocation. The chapel will serve offices for the local Salvation
Army and as a community center that provides after school activities
for the neighborhood.
The building
had a couple of technical challenges to overcome. The roof system
is a 3/12 pitched roof that is hinged at each end of the six modular
units. In addition, the structure required a chapel area with
a 9 ft ceiling and 54 ft clear span space - but still had to be
transportable into the city.
Included
in the design is an underground detention tank that allows the
greatest use of the property for outside activities. The efficiency
in the design and construction will facilitate the relocation
of the building in the future - a design criteria of the customer.
This 5,544
sq. ft. modular building was comprised of 6 14'x66' modules and
the entire project was complete and ready for occupancy in less
than five months.
