The Long Island ModSpace team and Turner Construction had to work through the site challenge of how to fit 15,792 square feet of modular office space into a "handball" court measuring a total of 15,456 square feet. The handball court was a concrete pad surrounded by a perimeter fence. With only 125ft x 124ft to work with, the team had to strategize and determine how to fit 23 floors of office space in the chosen area. In order to be true to the proposed design and fit all 23 floors, a scaffolding bridge was erected to rest a nine-floor complex. A crane was also used to position the floors upon the bridge, leaving just enough room to set up a seven-unit complex, three double-wides, and a single-wide at ground level. With the space dilemma resolved, the Long Island ModSpace team was able to help Turner Construction meet their target deadline for breaking ground on construction of the new state-of-the-art Yankee Stadium, soon to host fans and a historic cry of "Play Ball!" A
new Yankee Stadium will open in 2009, replacing
the third-oldest stadium in the Major Leagues. Yankee
Stadium has held up for 84 years, surpassed only
by Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. In August 2006
Turner Construction was scheduled to begin construction
work on the new Yankee Stadium, designed to resemble
the original 1923 stadium. The problem was the tight
space constraints for setting up office space during
the construction.
